While the Rams are touted as running a 4-3,
the defensive look will shift to a 5-1 alignment in nickel defense sub packages, with the Rams deploying a weak rotation Cover 3.
PENNY - TITE is the still he's showing they want to use on run downs if they can do it, on passing downs they area 4-2-5 team, if you count 2 LBers as part of the 4
it could be, personnel-wise called a 2-4-5 . . . either way, nickel in terms of pass downs they are a 4-2. The 5-1 is 5 DBs and is nickel
but it's closer to what they want to run most. It's a nickel defense designed to have better run-stopping solutions than a 4-2-5
That gives the Rams optimal spots to rush the passer, as well as defend the run effectively.
He's basically right here.
In the play below, the LA Rams are in a nickel package against the Seattle Seahawks.
Penny Package
The Rams box safety, Taylor Rapp,
Rams don't have a box safety or a strong safety, they don't do it that way, either one could be in the box
depending on what offense does
