I remember Peyton - I'd almost hear him in my sleep, over and over and over again: "Omaha!" somehow picked up above the crowd noise on a field mike before he'd fake a handoff to Edgerrin James, who'd tuck and run to Jeff Saturday's right as Saturday dropped into pass pro and Manning would take three, maybe five steps back and throw. Maybe seven, and a few fast steps of the Manning hip-hop speedy shuffle before he'd plant and throw.
They'd do that eleven or seventeen times in a row and then when the D was half asleep, hand the ball to James.
I hope we don't devolve to that version of a play action offense. I still have the hangover...
Play action - one tight end or two. One back or I formation. One receiver split left, two right. Trips left, TE right.
Lots of possibilities.
And McVay will, predictably, out of whatever personnel group he has on the field, run jet sweeps.
I'd like to see McVay move toward designing more offensive plays to best utilize the talent of his players. Maybe that's what we're foreshadowing in this year's draft. More on that later.
For one piece, it'll be interesting to see how our rookie back pans out and how McVay uses him. I'm excited for the possibilities.
