Not being negative, but when was the last time we succeeded in a trade up or trade down scenario? I can honestly only remember the misses.
I hear ya, OG. While the strategy may be sound, poor execution can ruin it quickly.
As to strategy:
Assuming that talent has been correctly evaluated and the next 8-10 players are rated more or less equally? Then it’s a no brainer to do the modest trade down.
More picks, more opportunities for success and if Snead hits on both picks we have a twofer advantage.
However, if Snead blows the picks gained, or the original pick turns out to be an elite player, OR coaches fail to develop the guys selected? Ummm… Then we have a Bobby Wagner fiasco. One that will haunt for more than a decade.
My preference? Well, assuming that Snead can pick a winner at 36, then why not assume that he can pick a winner at 44 and again later at 95? (Just to illustrate the principle). Either we have confidence in Snead and his scouts or we don’t. Let Snead take his swings, I say.
