and then the punting issues--Rusty Jackson--talk about bad
IDK if Knox was too conservative as Dempsey was considered a top kicker at the time the Rams traded for him in 1975. After two years of Dempsey the Rams finally went with the soccer style kicker in Rafael Septién in 1977, which was Knox's last year in Los Angeles then.
Totally agree on Punters after Dave Chapple in 73, he lost his job to Mike Burke in 74 and then in 1975 the Rams traded for Jim McCann, but then claimed Duane Carrell off waivers from the Cowboys and he was just awful. 1976 was Jackson and the worst of the lot under Knox was Glenn Walker of USC who was the punter in Knox's last year in 1977. Didn't get much better for special teams under Knox II as in 1992 he inherited Tony Zendejas as the kicker so that would be the best kicker Knox ever coached in Los Angeles, but his punters were Don Bracken (92), then they cut Bracken in 92 signing another former Packer in Paul McJulien before getting lucky as Sean Landeta was released and the Rams claimed him. Rams had a few packers because Knox's special team coach from 92-94 was Howard Tippett, who had been with Green Bay.
