As a kid Deacon Jones was one of my sports hero's. My favorite Ram, Elign Baylor was my favorite Laker and Don Drysdale and Willie Davis were my favorite Dodgers. I remember reading about DDJ ask a kid and he ran a 100 yard dash in 9.7 seconds. The guy was unbelievable and it was him who they referred to when they first used the word sack. He was a violent player who used a head slap which later became illegal. When they talk about how much better today's athletes are they still are looking for someone who could come off the end as fast as he did.

I must be getting old as all my sports heros are now dead and their memories distant but I can still remember the magic watching these guys play.
