I vaguely remember watching him play as he left the Rams after the 71 season when I was 5 years of age, but what a presence. I met him once and could not believe the size of his hand when I shook it and I am a decent sized guy 6'3. It was quite an experience, his eyes so intense and nobody would be close to his sack totals if they counted sacks during his whole career.
They broke a young kid's heart when the Rams traded him to the Chargers, but thankfully one legend replaced another with Jack Youngblood. One thing for sure as good as the Rams were from 1966-1970 under George Allen & then from 1973-1977 under Chuck Knox no Super Bowls (appearances). Also Allen never won a playoff game with the Rams, that is why in 1978 when they replaced Knox with Allen and cited Allen's ability to win, his post season record was worse then Knox and for the life of me never understood bringing Allen back.
