3) How much coverage did Floyd and Hoecht do last year?
.

in general, does not mean it cannot be tweaked by Morris.

It's too freaking bad we cannot talk about the scheme without MDS people
spoiling the conversation for no other reason than to troll and talk about
toilet paper but I will try.

Part of Fangio's thing is to disguise coverage by showing the same look
then rotating after the snap.

In other words, do not give the QB a pre-snap read. All he sees
are two safeties roughly even with each other, at varying depths
so if they are at 12, both are 12. One is not a strong safety
and the other the free safey, on always going into the box
the other to the middle of the field.

They both have to do both. If the rotation is one way
one safety is the strong and the other is the weak
and if it goes the other way then it is the opposite
that is if it is in the COV-3 family

If it is in the cover-2 family then each will have
half the field, or 1/4 of the field if it is quarters
and so on.

It is the same with the linebackers. There is
not a Sam and a Will, It's left and right.

And part of the disguise is the offense does not
know which one will cover and which one will rush.
On any given play it is usually one rushes and
one covers--

so both have to have both skills, you kind of want twins
like you have twins at safety.

In strong/weak schemes you'd have a strong safety
who is bigger stronger, more of a small LBer

in a strong/weak the strong side guy, who follows
the TE would have to cover man to man and sometimes
would need a bit more coverage skills. The weak side
guy would rush more, needs to be more of a DE

Think Carl Banks and LT . . . or Mel Owens
and Mike Wilcher -a poor man's version.

Owens battled tight ends more, Wilcher more of the sack
guy.

So, in terms of your edges---if we did get a Tuipulotu
who as you say is looking good in Lber drills, IMO
he's still on the "DE-side" of an OLBer while
let's say Phelps (244 pounds) is on the OLBer-side

In that case the scheme could be tweaked, I guess
to play a Phelps on the TE side and put Hoecht or
Tuipuloto on the weak side, and mostly have the TE
side cover and the weak side rush--

and have them switch sides--in other words

They'd still have to do both, but less so.

Now, if they think Hoecht and a Tuipulotu can cover
well enough to drop into the flay which is the
OLBers go when they do cover then
they can stay left and right

in nickel, though, both are expected to be DEs
so, you want them to rush well enough to do
that.

What you cannot have is two guys who lean
more to the DE side or two guys who
lean to the OLBer side
(Two Carl Banks' or Two LTs) it may sound good
to have two LTs but even he could not cover
like Carl Banks

So if Morris were to have the OLBer switch sides
you have to have one of each.

But if it stays left and right, you want guys who
are kind of in the middle, more or less.

Floyd and Lewis (if healthy) would have been ideal.
I always thought Hollins was not because he was
not a good enough rusher, more of a cover guy

Anyway here is an example of two calls--and
you tell me who in this class can fit the bill
I agree that we need to take 2 edges
one that has to start year one and the other
can be your development guy--4-6 rounder
