I think some things are being overlooked re: Wags

February 25, 2023 09:46AM
1. He is currently a better ILB than Jones, but Jones is young and on the rise and the team is betting on him to be their primary.

2. Rams defensively don't want to play 2 ILBs. They want to go back to the safety filling situationally into the box from a two deep look like Staley had going during his season as DC. This grants flexibility vs the pass which wins more games than stuffing the run (and I hate to admit this, I really do, because I detest being run on).

3. Given the above the Rams probably made the decision to move on from Wags before the season was over. It was a dumb signing if they believed in Jones because again one guy is gonna be on the field for all the snaps and they want it to be Jones.

4. Wags saying he wanted to win is BS. It doesn't matter. He was going to be cut regardless for the above reasons. Rams letting that storyline play is typical of them and their tendency to handle player egos with kid gloves even when they're cutting bait.
