Let's use this as a starting point.
"Carolina Panthers trade RB Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers for 2023 second, third, and fourth-round picks and 2024 fifth round pick. " [
www.nfl.com]
This site lists McCaffrey as the best RB in the league and puts Taylor 24th. [
www.nfl.com] So just based on that you'd think the price for Taylor would be a lot less.
Taylor's a FA after the 2023 season so this could be a 1-year rental. McCaffrey was already signed thru the 2025 season when the 49ers got him so they traded for 3 1/2 years of CMC's services. That also will lower Taylor's price. (Would he then be in line for a 4 year, $48M contract? I doubt the Rams really want to go that route, but maybe they value that comp pick if they tradie for him and them letting him walk in FA ...)
Taylor is entering his 4th season, has missed 7 games in 2 year, and is 24 years old. When McCaffrey was traded he was in his 6th season and was 26 years old. In the two seasons prior to being trades he had missed 25 games (and played in only 10!). This should raise Taylor's price tag.
So when I put all that in a blender it spits this out: a 3rd and a 6th this year plus a 5th in 2024?
And, of course, everyone on the internet has an opinion. Here's one of them:
"In my opinion, Taylor could fetch a 2nd and 4th round pick in the offseason. " [
www.stampedeblue.com] (It's from a Colts' site - may be a little biased?)
