After my first hip replacement about 20 yrs ago I was given a large bottle of Vicodin upon leaving the hospital. Vicodin is semi-synthetic opioid and extremely addictive especially if you have chronic pain. My neighbor did have serious pain throughout her body and would come over and borrow some pills. After a while it became quite the routine and she later admitted to being addicted because of the total pain relief it gave her. I only took it once and it scared me. It was Thanksgiving evening and I had been drinking wine at my son's house in Sacramento. When we got back to the hotel I bought a small bottle of wine and took one or two vicodin pills. For the next 4 hrs I couldn't sleep and kept changing the tv channels on the remote-like 1, 2, 3 (about that fast). I could not concentrate on anything and I just kept wanting something "new" on tv. I've never taken it again and not sure why I left that hospital with this large bottle of it. My hip surgery did not leave me in any substantial pain.
