Frank and I babysit our 2 1/2 yr old grandson, Everett, every Monday and Tuesday so he's typically here from about 7:30 am-5:30 or 6:00 pm. But yesterday, Everett's parents had a New Year's Eve party to attend so they just left him here until after the party. They didn't pick him up until around 12:30 am. Everett is a sweet little boy and easy to care for but even so, as caregivers, we have to constantly be awake, alert, and diligent making sure he's fed, changed, safe, and happy. We're not exactly spring chickens so even though we enjoy taking care of him, it's work! We were spent after a 17-hour day of babysitting.
That being said, a sweet moment came at midnight. Frank leaned over to give me a New Year's kiss to welcome the new year. Everett was WIDE awake and going like the energizer bunny. He looked at us for a few seconds, then approached me with his cute little mouth puckered up so he could give me a New Year's kiss, too. He did the same thing with Frank. So... at midnight, I got to kiss my two favorite fellas. It was precious.
After Kara and John left with Everett, Frank and I poured a couple of margaritas mostly to chill, relax, and get a good night's sleep. We rarely drink anymore but last night... was the perfect time to have one. I slept like a baby.
Happy New Year everybody!!
