Yeah Braveheart and The Patriot are similar, both in ignoring history and in setting up the hero figure as both a vengeful suffering martyr and just impossibly not human.
BUT as I said that's taste. Some people care about that, some don't, and they focus on other things.
Anyway on The Patriot---the real Battle of Cowpens was one of the great tactical chess moves of the Revolutionary War. In fact one historian calls it "the tactical masterpiece of the war."
