You are very muck like my wife. She refuses to go to a movie either in a theater or at home if she senses the movie is -as you say-disturbing and or sad. Her idea of going out to a theater is to enjoy the entire evening-not get into a lengthy discussion afterwards about what meant what. I, OTOH am the opposite. I "enjoy" the afterward discussions-not much to discuss in Mama Mia. Her idea of a wonderful Sunday in the rain is to binge watch "Hallmark" movies. She knows each one ends happily and can tell exactly (at 10 min. before the ending) when things begin to go from sad to happy. I've watch a few and she's right-always at 10 min. to go. However, she did go out to see Dunkirk and thought it was an excellent movie. I think that's because she may be hard of hearing-so it was perfect for her.
