Reynolds, Thomas and P. Cooper are all ok receivers. Watkins is a very good-great wide receiver. Huge difference. Goff is going to find out.
Everybody keeps saying that Watkins is a great WR.
There are great WR’s in this league. Get tons of double coverage and still make plays while putting up staggering numbers.
Based on what we all saw last year, I would credit Watkins with flashes, but nowhere near greatness.
I have lingering questions about him, as follows:
His football smarts. Still not sure that he’s got a good handle on this O.
Seems as if Goff doesn’t trust him as much as his other receivers. Like they’re on a different page sometimes? Why is that?
Sometimes seems as if Watkins prematurely gives up on a play.
Troubles me to see the rookie Kupp have to tell Watkins where to go, at times.
Great WR’s don’t let 2 TD’s escape them in a playoff game.
I’m now asking myself why the Bills would part with Watkins so cheaply? I mean, what did they know that we fans still don’t know?
McVay is considered an O savant, so why did Watkins seem to struggle last year? Maybe the problem wasn’t McVay?
Goff certainly wasn’t the problem. He had a helluva year throwing to everybody else on the #1 scoring O in the league.
It’s not as if Watkins was triple covered on each play, either. Woods, Kupp, and Gurley demanded their fair share of attention from opposing D’s.
Truly great players can take over a game, yet Watkins seemed to disappear at times.
Hmmmmm...
Geez, a 4th year vet in his contract year on the top scoring O and this is all we get? Something seems very wrong with that picture.
Is it just possible that Watkins is overrated by some?
