I tend to agree a WR is more likely in round 2 than round 1. Prediction #1: My bet is that Snead trades out of the first round to get a 2nd and a 3rd and 4th, or something like that. Prediction #2: if a stud WR drop (or TE/WR Bowers) or Brian Thomas (LSU--4.35 40 or something like that at combine, AND 212 pounds) to Rams in round one they may pounce OR even trade up a few spots to get whby nantucketramfan - RamsFootballFans.com

Either high in the draft, or FA, or both, the Rams will invest in a WR. Why? Clearly the Rams need an edge and DB's (especially corners). And they will secure those positions. But the Rams win because they have a great passing attack. Right now, the WR position is fragile. That's the reality. I've been saying for months the Rams will land a big time WR by draft or trade. Why? They may have needs (e.g. DB, edge...) but what makes this team win is their pass game. It has to be elite and right now, the WR group is sort of average with Kupp not the player he was. That's not acceptable to McVay. I agree Rams need a corner (BADLY), and a pass rushing edge, and depending on FA results -- maybe a guard and tackle. I also think a very high need is a WR. With Stafford's time likely to be short (a couple years?). With McVay as coach. And with Kupp a big question mark. Our WR corp may be mediocre. Can't win that way. Pass game has to be top-notch. They have much, much more information than any fan about every aspect of each Ram player and possible FA and draft choice. It's not even close. As fans it is fun to predict what the Rams will do and evaluate their moves, but other than that, we'll know next year and beyond how Snead/McVay braintrust did. Tutu is cheap to keep around, and importantly, don't forget Kupp's nagging injuries that may foreshadow father time - wear and tear -- reducing his contributions. Tutu is a cheap backup who showed last year he can contribute at some crucial times. Unless there is a really good alternative use of the Ram's money, I would pay Dotson. He was a HUGE factor literally and figuratively in igniting our running game... which led to great things. The running game helped Stafford immensely, and it gave us an identify of toughness vs. a pure finesse passing team that couldn't run the ball at all. If the first round pick were high enough -- TOP 10, for example, yes, I'd trade Donald for sure. It's a matter of age and future return. The Kupp answer is based on his health. Cromwell was a stud. Great option QB in college, and a stud safety in the pro's. Bertelsen (sp?) was a rock solid RB. VERY GOOD punt returner if I recall correctly. Didn't the Rams choose Bertelsen and Lawrence McCutcheon in the same draft, 2nd and 3rd round draft choices, respectively. McCutcheon was even a better RB than Bertelsen. Good point! I agree Snead tries to trade the first round pick, but more likely to accumulate additional draft picks (e.g .a late first and maybe a 2nd and 3rd/4th) this year. The problem is that the Ram's first round pick this year is basically in nowhere land. Not high enough for other teams to get a bluechip who the covet (first round graded player). Snead (with McVay by his side--witness the videos of them discussing picks) has done an amazing job with drafting and free agency to navigate a one year turnaround! My label should read: An avid Rams fan for 50 years, and I never cheered for that Patriots to win a game in my life (despite living in New England)... .... but Tom Brady is simply the best football player of all time. Agree! A new starting WR is essential for next year. Reality: Rams need to have a great pass attack to win. The pass game is their magic sauce, "differentiator", competitive advantage, core competence -- you name it. Kupp is fading. He was great, but his time has come and gone. I agree. Rams waited too long since we know two things with near certainty: 1. Pressure on Goff means bad Goff. 2. No pressure on Goff means good Goff. At least good defensive adjustments were finally made and the pass rush pressure ramped up. Goff was bad Goff, as expected. We need 2-3 new DB's. 2 CB and 1 safety. OLB/Pass rusher WR: a big need. I've been pounding the table on this. Rams can't have Stafford and McVay (both combine as the heart and soul of this team: the pass game) and not get a stud WR in this off season. Kupp is now a 3/4 guy.
