I see the point and its a good one ! I've spoken to more than one orthopedic surgeon who says the problem they see in football is similar to all sports and that's the duration. Many parents opt for a certain sport and then look for programs that are all year round hoping to either enhance the experience or improve the child's abilities. The problem becomes obvious in sports like baseball and fooby waterfield - Bucky's Pub
As far as football goes I think my wife has it right. Television has really made the sport far more attractive to young men than it was when I was in my 20s. Hence the more testosterone fueled audiences occupy stadiums today than in the 50s and 60s. So my question is : are today's young males-and some girls-more aggressive and confrontational in your face than when I was that age? And assuming thby waterfield - Bucky's Pub

I recall going to Kezar in the mid 60s to see the Rams v Niners. I can't even recall the score but what I do recall is that the fans were older and far more tolerant of my rooting for the Rams. There was none of this in your face " our house" attitude that I understand was later in Candlestick and now in Santa Clara. What the heck is the "punch out game"? So lets assume there really has been a change in our young culture-the Q is still -what caused the change and why. My "easy" answer is once again: those who should be having children are not and those that should not are.by waterfield - Bucky's Pub
Not sure why that would be an "unpopular" answer. Seems to be shared by many.by waterfield - Bucky's Pub
how the guy raises his fists as in victory and his girl gives him a hug and everyone under 40 is laughing and blah blah blah Personally I found the entire incident disgusting. Not entertaining. As I've repeatedly said I don't recall ever seeing this at any of the Coliseum games my wife and I attended in our 20s and 30s. And yes alcohol was served then as well. So what has happened-that's myby waterfield - Bucky's Pub

Yes-and look at you now/ Seriously, crashing your head into solid ice at 50-60 mph-even with a helmet-is always going to concern me. No matter how one looks at it any concussion be it a mild, moderate, severe is nevertheless a brain injury by a rapid movement of the brain inside the skull. The more severe ones result in the brain actually impacting the skull causing permanent brain damage. Whiby waterfield - Bucky's Pub
A few years back an old associate of mine had his family down here from Washington. He had some Dodger tickets and asked me if I wanted to go. I said sure since I had not seen him or his family in a while. The seats? Right field bleachers ! I won't ever do that again. That's a big thing here-at least in Newport Beach. I was in a whole foods store after a Drs. visit and some really cool looking gals were shopping mid-day-in pajamas. I suppose it's the cool thing to do-something that says your better than the rest of normal people.by waterfield - Bucky's Pub
The thing of it is that the parents are sincere about bringing their children up that way. They honestly don't consider it disrespectful but more of an enlightened approach. I can't discuss the issue of children addressing teachers and relatives by their first name with my son and his wife without beginning an endless argument over what the psych books say. So I try and avoid it. So its not doneby waterfield - Bucky's Pub

All one needs to do is turn on the tv. What sells is aggressive in your face edginess. Manners and tolerance do not sell and are mistaken for softness and weakness. In addition I know millennials-even in my own family-who consider the proper and polite way for a child to address an adult as " that's sooooo in the 50s" Imagine ! If you have disrespectful parents you will have disrespectful kids. If you have parents that display manners you will have like children. If your parents are combative you likely will be also. If your parents show racism most likely so will their children. In that light I personally believe that adults who should be having children are not and those that should not be having children are. but the question for me is why is the game no longer as "family friendly" as it was when I was in my 20s and 30s ? My wife has a solid answer. When we were first married in 1963 the Coliseum crowd was much older than today. She argues that television has made the game far more popular with its focus on the younger generation which has resulted in a much younger crowd and hence the higheby waterfield - Bucky's Pub
No question about it. It has all the same elements of any addiction. And your right adults are just as guilty. There appears to be a necessity to always be "connected" with something. Some -including myself-look forward to being alone without something to do. For many others that's like being in hell. Anyway not sure what this has to do with aggressive behavior. When my wife and I were first married we had season tickets at the Coliseum. We were in our 20s and the crowds seemed to be in their 40s and very respectful. Yes there were fans from the opposing teams and yes they were clearly excited and demonstrative when their team did something good. But there never seemed to be an "in your face" about their excitement. In the last two preseason gby waterfield - Bucky's Pub

Just watching Goff on the field reminds me of the way Montana carried himself. Keep in mind Montana was a back up to DeBerg the entire 79-80 season and didn't start a game until midway through the 80-81 season. Moreover it wasn't until the start of the 81 season that he started the season as the no. 1 qb. The niners did not draft Montana because of his being "pro-ready". Sorry-we differ widely on this. Colleges have a "responsibility" to educate their students not to make them into professional football players. If it were otherwise based on the number of athletes in college that don't make it in the professional leagues their failure rate would be intolerable.
