Thanks for the extra information, Man. As I say in the other posts, I think BQ is BQ and always will be. What he offers has value, but don't expect him to become consistent. However, I wondered who he was catching those balls against. You mention Peterson. Were the scores against Peterson? If so, it must be noted that he made a couple big plays against a guy who generally shuts WRs dowby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
Quotechunkmeister Time will tell if he returns back to the Quick of old. Or.....if he is breaking through to a new normal for Quick. I guess I figure it will be both. He'll make plays when he's comfortable. And when he isn't, he'll break down. It's who he is. But I guess the lesson is to avoid seeing him in simplistic terms as a bust. Virtually every Ram fan wanted him cut this PS. And thatby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
A reflective post on league verities ... and a bit on the Rams. The NFL provides evidence for a truth that all fans of all teams forget at their peril. Before the season, no one knows which teams will be hard or easy to beat. I am always amused by the fans who look at the schedule before the season and check the games as likely wins or losses. All too often, these expectations are mere pby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
The man has the "talent" of a superstar WR. That's what the FO saw when they drafted him. But he was very slow to gain any sort of confidence. Then, a couple years ago, he started to make plays. At which point he was injured. And, after recovering ... he again had to very slowly develop the confidence to make plays again. In both cases, the confidence took more than a season to brby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
Saying this exact thing. I figure our offense will be fine. Limited, but fine. The challenge is in our defensive discipline.by RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
Both these guys were good picks and both will succeed. I even have a suspicion you guys might find suspect. I think that Goff could have been ready to start had the team wanted to go that way. This is not a criticism of the route the Rams are taking. It's just a recognition that many QBs can be quickly prepared for some games ... if the offense is simplified to match what the QB can do.by RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteLMU93 I think it's all about minimizing mistakes. Tackling, blocking assignments, dropped passes, penalties, kicks, bad snaps. I agree so much that more games are lost rather than won in the NFL. When the Rams don't have a ton of mistakes they can compete with any team in this league- and I mean any. I still believe the Patriots don't win because they make more big plays than their opponby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRams43 Will we see some substantial use of Gurley in the passing attack? Would LOVE to see that. Mentioning RBs in the passing game raises the issue of the screen. We have been bad at executing screens forever. And it hurts us. Teams with a well executed screen game are really hard to stop. Now, of course, screens are easier to execute if you've been hitting downfield passes. But,by RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
Too many questions ... but that's to be expected with a team hoping to break out of mediocrity. In so many areas, we are not yet ESTABLISHED. Now, although I can't answer all your questions, I do tend to boil things down a bit when looking at our offense. We have to be better than we were. But, for me, our passing game doesn't need to be dramatically better ... IF ... our running game is moreby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
Quotestlramz I posted it when it happened. it definitely looked like a low ankle but even those are 2-3 weeks minimum. A run of the mill low ankle sprain can be a pretty short term injury. I mean, you FEEL it for a few weeks, but with a decent training staff, one can play pretty well. I had some routine ankle sprains playing in HS and for a small college team. Our training staffs were lightby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
After following this team since 1968, I got a LOT of scar tissue. My fan reflexes are pretty deeply conditioned to expect disappointment. No way I could get myself to eagerly anticipate a BIG win. I'll be very happy with a boring, 10-6 escape. Well, maybe not very happy. And I do want at least 1 TD. But my expectations would be positively fulfilled!by RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
(What's your key to the game?) Guy, I dunno what to expect tonight, primarily because I don't follow SF. Everyone says they're a bad team, but "everyone says" isn't a very good guideline. OK. Let's assume that SF has less talent than we do. They are coached by a guy who likes to run an unconventional offense that is sometimes very effective and sometimes handled by NFL defenses.by RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
I guess I see things differently. I mean, if Quinn is what he was 2 years ago, our DL will be sick. Indeed. But as I argue repeatedly, a great DL is never enough without judicious use of the secondary. I don't care how good the front 4 are, they won't get to the QB without come containment of WRs by the DBs. As for Quick, ... Well I expect him to be what he always has been. I see people write as if Fisher can count on SK's support indefinitely. Well, it's understandable. Ram fans have endured decades of frustration of ownership not holding coaches accountable. But I really don't see why anyone would assume that Fisher can count on an extension unless the team performs this year. The situation has changed, and SK will NOT stonewall the LA press and fans. In a thread below, Max says ... I heard Fauk say Goff isn't ready but if the Rams start 0-4 or something like that they will put Goff in. And he said it has to do with Fisher/Snead getting an extension and Kroenke not wanting to look foolish in LA if he gives them extensions and the team is bad again. Now, I've heard all sorts of rumors about this, but I don't THINK they've signed an extensby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
Indeed. But just an added point. A DT who can penetrate enough to rush the passer is ALSO a deadly force in disrupting the running game. A running play is always designed to allow freedom of motion for backs behind and approaching the LOS. Disruption of the designed flow of backs is--or should be--lethal to a running game. It's lethal if properly backed up by other DL holding their gby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com

Agreed. The LA press is doing a pretty lousy job. 2 speculative reasons. 1st, these guys really don't know the team. We and the StL media know this team intimately. They don't. They reach for the cliches and common wisdom because they haven't seen the club play and don't have much feel for its reality. 2nd, I sense a real, LA preference for the spectacle of the team. QuoteLesBaker as Donald. Maybe some guys have been as fast but man I can't recall anyone getting halfway past his man before his man is even partially in a blocking stance as often as Donald is.......or just flat out past the guy on the OL even. This is correct. AD is routinely past his guy before said guy can deliver a strike. Implication: AD will be subject to less wear and tear than mostby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
I dunno how to say AD is or is not better. Speed at the LOS is devastating. Always has been. Quick and fast DTs who can hold up in other ways are unbelievably rare and almost more valuable than QBs. Almost. And we have one. Best Ram since Ike, maybe further back.by RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteFlorida_RamFor years now, the Rams should have been able to ride their dominant defense to a postseason berth for the first time since 2005. I think I get your point. And I agree that a QB doesn't do it alone. In fact, I have argued here and elsewhere that we need to see that even WITH the QB chaos we have endured in recent years, we have beaten good teams and been in position to win a considerable number of games that we lost. We have lost lots of games when we have had what should have been commanding leads. That point, I thiby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
And we can be specific. A team can run the ball. That's good. But the running game itself is not enough in 2 key situations: - 3rd and longer than 2 - The RZ And these are the areas we have stunk in. A team must have balance. That doesn't mean 50/50. Balance means something different for every team. A great pass offense can thrive at 80/20. But 90/10 won't be good enough. Quotedzrams Isn't the LB situation better than it was last year? Last year Barron and Ogletree never saw the field at the same time. Not sure I saw a Q. LOL Quotewv ram Well i assume teams are gonna run at Donald, and try and wear him down and bully him and get to Ogletree. So the Rams will have to be strong up the gut. I remember GW running exotic blitzes and walking CBs off the LOS. Drove me crazy. My friend, I wrote about this at the time on another forum. Do you think this is the first time an elite, pass-rushing DL has faced teams trying to get rid of the ball quickly? If that sby RFL - RamsFootballFans.com
I always liked Sam, and had he stayed healthy we would have won more games. I believe that in my bones, though I can't prove anything. Mannion? I dunno. There's some promise there, but he has NOT been tested anywhere near enough to say he can win regular season games. QB Case Keenum I don't think he can or will "improve." He may play somewhat better given a stable offense and time in the position. But he is what he is. LT Greg Robinson This one's really important. JJM, I knew nothing about rugby until my son started playing. I quickly became hooked. Chris had a HS rugby coach from England who played top flight rugby in the 70s.
