The man has the "talent" of a superstar WR. That's what the FO saw when they drafted him.
But he was very slow to gain any sort of confidence. Then, a couple years ago, he started to make plays.
At which point he was injured. And, after recovering ... he again had to very slowly develop the confidence to make plays again. In both cases, the confidence took more than a season to bring him to the point where he could compete.
Obviously, you don't want a fragile competitive ego. That's why so many of you are saying "unreliable."
And yet, when he HAS built up his confidence, he has made good, competitive plays. Both TDs yesterday were fine plays competitively challenged by defenders.
Now, I saw only highlights yesterday, so I don't know what he was doing the rest of the time. But, it seems to me that, if he is handled with care, the coaching staff can expect him to make SOME plays. Down after down? No. 8-10 catches a game? No way.
But given our other options, what he offers has real value, so long as he is not exposed to the sort of pressure that will expose his fragility. He is currently not only a weapon, and a weapon on an offense with few weapons, but he is also a TYPE of weapon we really need to put some downfield pressure on defenses.
