The Rams have a number and its only a question of whether Kyren's side will accept it or look for greener pastures. You simply don't enter negotiations unless you do. He is not a top tier RB. He is not indispensible. And I suspect he will always work best in tandem with another back. But he is a good RB and I believe the Rams would prefer to keep him. It is simply speculation and wishful thinking to project players to walk in the door and become NFL successes. This is proved every year to be a false assumption. Don't get me wrong. Of course Hunter has all the tools and attributes the Rams want. But until a guy plays, to count on a rookie for much of anything is a gamble. The Rams got better for two reasons as the season went on. 1) The early injuries killed the offense. 2) The D was young, new DC, and had to grow. Depth can help with the injury situation but only to a degree. There's a reason there are starters and there are back-ups. As for the D, I expect it to be pretty darn good from the get-go this year. Size does matter, but other factors play just as large of a role. AD was a very small DT compared to his contemporaries, but is one of the best ever to play. Not putting Murchison in that league, but in the end it comes down to how well a guy plays football. And, he seems to be a good and rising player. Kobe Turner was also "small". As the season gets longer and longer, and NFL football is now being played February, a team MUST have depth not just to account for injury, but to reduce the reps of some of the starters who just plain get worn out. And, the Rams have built some really impressive depth. About the only place I see a deficit is at OT, and maybe at CB. I'm not a Tutu "hater". But I know what I see. And so far what I've seen is a part time player who has the benefit of 2 studs ahead of him drawing fire so he can have lots of one on ones, and not much press to hinder him get off the line, and coverage from the D's 3rd CBs. In the video, Snead and McVay make it clear that McVay was absolutely in love with Ferguson. HE was the guy of all possible guys that McVay would have gone home disappointed if they had not landed. Interestingly, it looked to me like Snead was head over heels about Stewart. That is, he doesn't see Stewart as a rotation/back-up player but rather a true stud starting OLB. This is a ridiculous play. It's not really even a play. It's not NFL football. Safety? I agree. It's no more unsafe than any other play. But, league politics being what they are, we have at least another year of it coming. No inside info.... just my own speculation. But, I'd have to say a 3 year deal at $20 mil total is probably about the top. With maybe only the first year guaranteed, and being a team friendly $4-5 mil. Likely never reaching year 3 before being cut. If he can get more elsewhere, then God bless him. Hunter is that kind of speed player we have needed to compliment our running game. And this guy is no "finesse" runner. He is as powerful as he is speedy. In fact, one wonders why he was there so late in the draft, because I've yet to hear some kind of red flag about a guy who played in the SEC and did so darn well, and graded so high. As long as the system remains stable, that's the issue for me. Otherwise, we're just jousting at windmills since there are pros and cons for pretty much every system that can be devised. I don't like it that every time we turn around, someone wants to change it and you can bet that the owner that wants the change sees a certain advantage for their team. Just leave it be. If I was asked to comp a player to Purdy today, I think it might be Cousins or Geno Smith. Good players, but with limitations. That said, who knows with the proper weapons and a good Oline what he might be in another year or two? Finding a high-level QB in the NFL is murder. And it seems to be close to pure luck. And, keeping JG was really big because he still has skills, he's totally healthy, he's been an entire year in the system, and he's played in big games. The Cousins thing is actually pretty bizarre. For Atlanta to first give Cousins a huge mostly guaranteed contract, and then in weeks draft Penix with the 8th pick in the draft, is a head scratcher that is yet to make any sense. It is standard wisdom to discount a next years pick by one round. I mostly agree with that thought. But.... a 1st round pick is a whole other deal, because (theoretically) here is where you get a chance of the true blue chip players. Corum is cheap. Healthy. A good team guy. Talented. Knows the offense. It is beyond a stretch for them to cut a 2nd year guy like him. Might he wind up RB3 with the drafting of the Auburn RB? Sure. But, competition will determine that. I think we'll see 4 RBs, the first 3 being Williams, Corum and Hunter. The 4th is totally up in the air.
