It's so easy for the fans to just say "pay up!". But, these things have a lot of facets to them including team salary structure, amount of guaranteed money, injury history, and what position is being discussed. A few weeks I ago I posted that when McVay gives unprompted props to a player, that guy has really caught his eye. One guy he brought up a few times was Hampton. And, it seems McVay's style continues to hold true. He also clearly loves Kinchens who he brings up regularly. There are at least 2 positions that the Rams will not pay big 2nd contracts for: ILB and RB. So, I have no doubt that Jourdan is correct on her info that the Rams have made it known to the Jones agent that they would listen to trade offers. They tried him as a PR guy and got hurt. They tried again, and he wasn't sure handed. They tried again and he simply didn't do the job well. And then they stopped trying. He wasn't used on coverage units, and if he couldn't break into the worst STs in the league...... I think Jourdan is dead on. But I would add the following: 1) I'd rather have the 6 Safeties but only 4 OLB, with Hampton being cut and hopefully resigned to the PS. This is because I think Speights can be an outside pass rusher in spots because of his strength and athleticism. 2) Tutu is likely going to get traded if the Rams can get something on the order or a 5th rounder for him (even ifby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com

Speights is a heck of a football player, and I think he may turn out to be another Nacua or Turner type of find who could wind up as the #2 ILB by late season. He is a heat seeking missile that strikes hard. He just LOOKS different, and plays at a different speed and intensity, than many around him. Can he grasp the mental side of the game? I can't believe how deep our oline is. They did pretty darn well today. Am I mistaken, or did Bruss not play but Zach Thomas did? Hmmm. It s sure seem like they plan on Bruss as a prime backup. I think Evans has outplayed Scott. He is more powerful, more decisive, he goes north/south, and he's just beginning his career. Scott is fine, but if he ever did have outside speed, he doesn't now. Letting Jacobs go means the Rams feel they have young guys that can do the job. So, I doubt this will affect the number of players of CB vs. Safety, but it might affect the mix. I see the Rams keeping perhaps 10 secondary players, with a mix of 4 CBs and 6 Safeties. Of course X belongs on the 53. Of course he's better than Tutu and with more potential (just from size alone). Tutu is straight line fast. And he is not very strong. Just look at him! You don't have to be a trainer to see how slight he is. But there is far more to "speed" than measured 40 times. Any Rams fan ought to get that by now re: Kupp and Nacua. I really like 48. Dude is fast, hits like a ton of bricks. I can imagine him being an STs demon and if he is ILB 3 that wouldn't be a bad thing. In fact, I bet he could also be OLB 5 or 6 on passing downs. I like the group of Jones, Rozeboom, then Hummel, then Speights. Not sure they could get him back on the PS through waivers. Give me a football, place a barrel 20 yards in front of me, give me a day to practice, and then give me 10 tries. I can probably get one in there once or twice. That's Bennett. Even his completed passes were high, low, behind WRs, and they made great plays to retrieve poorly thrown balls. What bothered me also was that he couldn't seem to gauge the speed he needed to throw. I don't care if Stetson throw 5 picks in this next game, he is the Rams only possibility as a back up for Stafford in games 1 & 2. It is far too late to even pick up an old vet who won't even know the playbook. Every one on this board knows I didn't like McVay bringing Stetson back in the first place.
