Big problem I see with Atwell is that his catch radius is tiny due to his size. Stafford has to be really accurate to hit Atwell, and Stafford seems to be really up and down even within games. If Oline was more stout, I expect Stafford would be more accurate and Tutu would be more of a weapon.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
Great post! Given the Rams desire to reload for 2024 and the related salary cap issues, Hoecht is not a terrible option. Great teams like the Eagles expose limited players like Hoecht. Weaker teams don't have the players/scheme to do it.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
The Hoecht situation reminds me a lot of what happened with Troy Reeder. Both players kind of got thrust into starting roles despite their limitations, and then opponents exploited them. Reeder was essentially a special teamer that just did not have sideline to sideline speed to play regularly. Good spot starter or reserve, but not someone you wanted to depend on. Hoecht seems similar to me...gooby BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
Lundy did play some receiver in his first couple years in the league, and had a game with 100+ yards receiving. I think it was his 2nd year in the league though...not in his first game.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
Jourdan R's reporting has been pretty clear that inside DL is the area in which the Rams are looking for vet help via waivers/trade after training camp. I can't see them signing a vet WR at any price above the minimum. Unless they start with 3 or 4 wins, this season is all about seeing what rookies/2nd years players are worth keeping in 2024 when they reload.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
Not only a great blocker, but great football smarts. Gurley seemed pretty good in that dimension as well, but I can't think of another RB who understood offense concepts as well as Faulk.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
Once Bernie left the Post-Dispatch he became much lower profile in STL. Still has a radio show but not sure who listens anymore. Jim Thomas just retired and he said that he still talks to Mike Martz. Aside from DV, Martz was certainly the most interesting coach we had in St. Louis, so I can see how reporters would really like him.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm a big Goff fan but he needs a great system to be really effective. I think the NFL had caught up to the McVay system with Goff and so Rams needed to change it up with Stafford. I also think that after the Super Bowl McVay failed to anticipate how teams would adjust to the Rams...needed to do a better job of establishing an effective run game since so many teams started playing the Fangio D.by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
I like her writing quite a bit, but I also was a big fan of Jim Thomas' just the facts approach. For example, I thought her piece on McVay's mental disengagement from the team over the course of the season, then re-engagement, was really good and insightful. Crazy thing to me is that we never talk about the LA Times beat writer for the Rams...seems like they have not had one since the Rams cameby BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm also a super lurker...been reading these boards in various incarnations since late 90s. I remember being so impressed by fasteddie's camp reports and saw a few folks up in Macomb. Even for people like me who just read and never post, the board has been a great source of fun and definitely made being a Rams fan back in 2010s tolerable!by BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
Interesting to see how many of the teams that have brought back the run have coaches that are from the McVay coaching tree...O'Connell, Waldron, etc. I think McVay misjudged the change...exemplified by fact that Rams have 0 blocking tight ends and his innovation for the run game has been a wide receiver playing fullback. Moreover, McVay focused on smaller backs that are useful in passing game andby BruceHolt - RamsFootballFans.com
