That's awesome that you spend a lot of time with your grandson..

I think he will absolutely appreciate it in life.. My dad's parents both died before I was old enough to talk, or remember anything.. My mom's mom passed away when she was 6 years old.. her dad, my grandfather, and I met a few times.. he lived in Germany and we were in Texas.. but, he didn't speak English and I didn't speak German, so we were never able to communicate.. I think I saw him on two occasions, for about two weeks each, on trips.. Its kind of sad, but it is what it is..
