My nephew works for a large oil company. A few years back they sent him to Papua New Guinea to work for a couple of years. He lived & worked within a fairly large well guarded compound.

The only time he was off the compound was the bus ride to and from the airport whenever he took a little vacation. He said the compound was much like a small town, where he had a nice apartment, and restaurants, bars, and other activities. Not too bad for a couple of years. But he was never tempted to leave the compound on any exploratory or adventure outings. He said he had seen enough while on the bus passing thru some of the small towns, villages and such.

It wasn't uncommon for the bus to drive by a small group of locals standing around and discussing what appeared to be a dead body. And of course he had been briefed/instructed on the dangers of venturing outside the compound.

Yeah, I think our whole family breathed a little sigh of relief when he finally came back state-side.
