regarding who castrated music.. Its like, imo, everything peaked in the 80's.. biggest productions, best musicians etc.. and the 90's someone ripped the rug out from underneath: you had zero production and average talent, for the most part, along with more depressing subjects and melodies, which was fresh because people were used to upbeat anthems and overblown production..
But when you go from ALL to NOTHING, where else is there to go? Everyone who couldn't sing started rapping.. rock bands with great musicians started doing Cookie Monster vocals because there weren't enough good singers around.. Imo, every time there was a shift is what was "cool" it went DOWN in quality and talent..
Home studios got to be the rage and everyone was creating loops and samples and pitch correction because they couldn't play an instrument OR sing.. but, not you could get around that by "fixing it in the mix".. I read an article that pitch correction vocals got SO popular that people who COULD sing had to start using pitch correction (which does give a distinct sound to the vocal) just of fit in with everyone who COULDN'T sing..
I dunno, man.. someone needs to come out with some BASIC smash mouth rock n roll and re-ignite the passion of rock music.. and, I know just the guy to do it.. if he could get off his ever expanding butt..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
