Yup. It's a nationwide problem just like employment in general across all sectors. There are a lot of jobs needing people but people don't want the jobs.

We registered Everett in January to attend Adventure Club. Adventure Club is a fee-based program in the public school system that provides child care services at the school before school, after school, and full-time during the summer. It's on a first-come, first-serve basis and we've been waiting 7 months to find out if Everett was "in" or not. I finally called the school district administrative offices to find out what's going on and they said that at Everett's school they need to hire 2 more people to accommodate the number of kids wanting to attend adventure club. They said they are having trouble finding people. We just couldn't wait any longer to see if they're going to have adequate staff or not because school starts on Monday! We decided it was best to go with plan B. So the family decided to scratch Adventure Club this school year. Since public school is all new to Everett and he's only 6, we think he's a bit young to be riding the bus since he will be by himself. We've worked it out between his parents and grandparents that we will transport him back and forth to school this year and perhaps next year as well. It'll take some coordination and constant communication, but I think we can do it. Not having him in Adventure Club will save us some money to boot (It's like $400/month). By the time Everett is in 2nd grade he should be old enough to ride the bus and we won't need to transport him every day ourselves. .

So for us, the shortage of school bus drivers isn't a problem... at least for now.
