Since I am coming from the north on 41 when I go thru that area. It looks like the Cholame cafe is ok as the merge with 41 and 46 looks to happen right at Cholame.

Like you I have traveled that route many, many times, and still do. From where I live we have only two routes to the coast.. one over Pacheco Pass which leads to the Monterey area and this one. I've seen many accidents on that road over the years but oddly never one right at the 41/46 intersection, (James Dean accident)... but rather along the road from Cholame to Paso Robles after they come together. So I think this change will help.... I'm not at all doubting that intersection is dangerous just because I haven't seen an accident there... but I think the entire route Cholame/Paso Robles will remain a dangerous one. - JamesJM
