We were there in August 1989. We had a minor break down with one of the vehicles, so we had to pull over for about 30 minutes. I walked away from our truck and did a 360. I saw NOTHING! But what I DID see was stars VERY VERY bright, straight ahead in my view. Something maybe I should not have done was walk away from the convoy. I walked out about 100-150 yards. That could have been a snake danger??? I had my combat boots on FWIW. I just wanted to get as far as I could till I heard NOTHING. I did. Though on land, it felt like I was on water. I will say, after that three day drive (Three FULL days) I did NOT complain when we got a ride on a KC135 back to Blytheville, two weeks later.
By the way, thoughts of that trip make me CRINGE when I think about us going to Juarez. NOT a safe place to be!
