Actually the great depression was one of the driving forces behind our entrance into the war. The United States was still recovering from the impact of the Great Depression and the unemployment rate was hovering around 25%. American factories were retooled to produce goods to support the war effort and almost overnight the unemployment rate dropped to around 10%. Our factories were retooled and women began doing work that men had been doing. WW2 was an economic boon for the US.
