I think had the Messerschmitt ME 262 been developed earlier, the war may have played out much differently, or at least been extended..
Germany had a huge head start on war production vs. the rest of the world but from a over-all production stand point I just don't see anyway they ever had a chance in the long run. An example is the Tiger tank, the best tank of the war, far superior to the Sherman. I've seen interview with Sherman crews who said it took 4 Sherman's to knock out one Tiger and you'd lose three of the Sherman's in the process. In the long run that didn't matter because through the entire war Germany produced a total of 1,800 Tigers. Detroit pumped out 50,000 Sherman's.
Same goes for Japan. While at the start of the war we only had 7 aircraft carriers, by the end of the war we had 160 including 24 Essex class carriers. The production might of this county during WW2 was far superior to the axis powers.
