What happened to the Nolan Ryans of the League??? Guys who threw Mach 2 fastballs and CONSISTENTLY went 9 innings. Now we had middle relieve, set up and closers. Shmoltz brought up what I have seen first hand......Little League! Many kids are DONE by College age and the ones who get past that have shorter arm life. Too many Leagues out there that play WAY too many post season Tournaments. Sure, they have pitch counts but that goes out the window when kids are playing 6-7 times the amount of games that were played 2-3 decades ago. My Wife's Son played in a League that went from late Feb - Mid May.....roughly 16-18 game season. But the POST season / All Stars?? That went from mid May to about early Sept with about 40 games crammed in. That and practices. It go so bad, my Step Son lost interest in playing all together. And he was a Natural. Also......I still see young kids throwing junk pitches. HORRIBLE on a developing arm!
