I just told my Son yesterday that back when Cecil Field, here on the Westside of Jax was a functioning Navy base. They used to make Sonic Booms OFTEN back in the 70s. I recall, vividly, two in one day. Scared the hell out of me (Didn't help that my Brother was telling me the world was ending). My Grandfather used to get a morning AND afternoon newspaper. The afternoon paper reported cracked windows on homes and simply a lot of concerned people. Come next weekend, we had another boom. I remember my Grandfather told my Dad the next day that the C.O. of Cecil Field told every Squadron that the next Pilot who does that over the City will lose his wings. Never heard another after that! LOL I have talked to other older adults who remember those days in the mid 70s. They all appreciate that this IS a Navy town but a few hot dogs were getting carried away.
