My son has ulcerative colitis. He has had lots of problems going on 2 years now... lots of pain, lots of bleeding in the colon, chronic diarrhea, anemia, bone-crushing fatigue, etc. Anyhow, his doctor wanted him to take a particular medicine (I've forgotten the name) where the initial dose had to be administered at the Infusion Center at the hospital. That infusion cost $56,000. Mark's cost was only a few dollars co-pay because he had insurance PLUS he qualified for some kind of pharmaceutical subsidy which covered a large chunk of it. What in the hockey sticks do people do who have no insurance? I guess they just lay down and die, eh?
