It was just 3-4 days after Christmas 1977. I was TOTALLY fascinated by it for a couple of reasons. Hardly a few months before I saw it, my Brother had told me the story about Flight 19 (The TBF Avengers missing in the Bermuda Triangle) and.......To be honest, I was sorta spooked by UFOs as a kid. Close Encounters went from sorta spooking me to making me feel good about life out there. Funny thing is....I saw this not more than two days after "THE MUUUUD BOWL""!!!! LOL It was also good time with my Dad in sort of a bad time. Mom and Dad had separated the October before. I had spent the night with him the night before we saw the movie. For Christmas, he had given me a model of the German Battleship "Tirpitz" by Revell (I swear my memory blows me away sometimes) LOLOL The trip to the theater. It was in a theater that has long been torn down and replaced. I recall there being signs to "TRY OUR CHEDDAR POPCORN!!" They had signs all over the theater advertising it. Before the previews, they advertised it on the screen. AFTER the movie, we were walking to the car and some poor man was on all fours, by his car, puking his guts out. He looked at us and groaned (With a smile) "That G.D. Cheddar Popcorn!!" OH! The previews!! I remember that's when I first saw the preview to "Superman" with Christopher Reeves. LOL Thanks for bringing up a cool memory!
