The study authors specifically point out
“Our conclusions at this stage, however, should be cautious. These are early findings and may change”Thus making the findings anything but conclusive. If they are accurate however I would suspect the findings or lack there of has more to do with opportunity then anything. The article did note a host of negative effects including mental health outcomes that are allegedly the result of lockdowns leading one to expect an increase in suicide. However one thing not accounted for is that with so many people staying home the opportunity for one to commit suicide is diminished as suicide is generally a solitary act.
