In most all the elite World Cup countries soccer is the most popular and often the only sport. In those countries the best of athletes play soccer and in many underdeveloped countries it is the only way for them to achieve a better standard of living. Christiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Neymar (Brazil) have been the three highest paid athletes in the world right below Michael Jordan. In our country our best athletes are spread out over multiple sports-both team and individual. Finally, our Country's focus on soccer has relatively still new while the elite soccer countries hx with the game goes back centuries.
