I remember the trip well. I was about to start 7th grade when me, my Mom and Dad went to see my Grandmother and a Couple of Aunts and Uncles in Myrtle Beach, my Dad's home. When we got there, my Aunt asked how the trip was. I replied...... Boring with a lot of crumbling old houses. She told me.....Never look at them as old ratty / boarded up places. She said to look at them and think of the history behind them.....Families, children being raised, gatherings at Christmas etc etc. That REALLY stuck with me! To this day, I think of my Aunt when I see old buildings. The Churches in these photos....I think of many Sermons, people getting married etc.. When where they built? When was the last service? Strange to think that it has been decades since they were used but one day they were proud / brand new structures.
