Hey UK , question about British TV shows

I've noticed that many British TV shows ( comedies anyways ) only have like 6 - 9 episodes per season
where here in the US they have like around 25 episodes per year
my question is , how do you know when those British shows air ?
do they just air all 6-9 episodes at once like Netflix , or are they on once a week for 6-9 weeks , then not all all for the rest of the years ?
once a month ?
do they show reruns of the same show during the same season ?
basically , with so few episodes , how do you know when they'll air ?
this might be my favorite show of all time
