Those were the days. I've "loved" the Dodgers since listening to the radio when they were in Brooklyn. Then one day they broke my heart. I stayed home from middle school pretending I was sick to watch on our first tv "the shot heard around the world". Bobby Thomon's home run against the Dodgers' Ralph Branca to put the N.Y. Giants into the world series.
It's like your first love who leaves you for another. Your devastated but you never lose that first love. That's me and the Dodgers. "Dem bums".
The only thing that brought this 13 yr old out of severe depression was a few months later the Rams beat the Browns for the NFL Championship at the Coliseum -which I saw in person-right on the 20 yd line where VanBrocklin unloaded to Tommy Fears.
But there still is a part of my heart that will never be healed.
