First, however, this is truly a tragic loss. When I couldn't name 3 players on the Cardinals during his era I could ALWAYS name Gibson.
About the 'rubber'... haven't researched this, (as yet), but just saw a friend post that because of Gibson MLB lowered the rubber. Is there truth in this? I would think it's more likely a conglomerate of great pitchers during his era that brought about the change.... which certainly doesn't lessen the accomplishment... it's amazing.... but if it was Gibson alone then great leaping lizards.. that is completely mind blowing.
