Last few days I was as sick as I've ever been in my life. No symptoms matching very well with Covid, certainly no respiratory symptoms... but who knows? It was hell... temp went over 104º a few times... which, if your my age, means your basically dead.
Began feeling better last night... not good, but better. Talking with my family I happened to mention that I had never seen the movie "Mary Poppins". Well, their reaction was one of astonishment, incredulity. They demanded I watch it, and watch it immediately. I negotiated... got my granddaughter to agree that if I watched Mary Poppins, (immediately), she would watch "Harvey" with me the very next time it was convenient for her. We'll see about that last part... but as for me... I held up my end...
Started it at 12am.... not sleeping anyway so why not watch a movie. So OK... Mary Poppins...
This was a darn good movie... I was impressed... I did NOT, however, think it was an all time classic great movie. Or at least I didn't until - - - - The Chimney Sweeper Dance. I thought I had seen that dance, actually, on YouTube..... I had not... I had only seen the 'intro' to it... last night I saw it all... and frankly.. it may have topped the all time greatest movie dance, (in my humble opinion), of "Singing In The Rain" from the movie of the same name... actually Singing In The Rain has two dances tied at #1... Singing In The Rain and Make Them Laugh by Donald O'Connor.
I actually watched it twice... rewinding, (scrolling), back to view it a second time as soon as the 1st viewing finished... had too... because the first time I allowed that questioning attitude of "How in the living HELL did they do that?" to interfere with the magnificence of the performance.... so the 2nd time I put my questions aside and simply enjoyed.
Seen it? Sure you have.. it's friggin' Mary Poppins. I had not, now I have, and I'm a better man for having done so. - JamesJM
