Seems to me the best example I can give is this: Assume that a 727 crashes in center field just as the pitcher is starting his wind up. He-or she-stops to look. He then proceeds to pitch to the batter-assuming he's still there. That is a balk ! To avoid the balk he must have continued his pitch once he began notwithstanding the airliners crash.
