I've been to all the ones in California. Also to some of the great stables and training farms in Kentucky. Have photos of where Secretariat was buried. if you ever get a chance to visit Kentucky go to Claiborne Farm where some of the greatest horses ever were bred, trained, and are now buried on the premises. Unbridled, Easy Goer, Secretariat, Bold Ruler-to name a few. The farm is in Paris, Kentucky.
To me horse racing is the most exciting minute and a half in all of sports. Too bad all the deaths which I think are attributed to racing horses much, much younger than before. Too much money-i.e. stud money-to keep them under wraps.
My mother used to be a bookie of sorts. When I was in elementary school my bedroom had a fold up desk that had slots for all the tracks in the U.S. plus what seemed like a hundred phones. All this stuff was brought in by a real bookie who placed bets all day. When I would get home from school the west coast tracks were still on so I would wait and help his carry out all his stuff at the end of the racing day.
