but IMO several of his songs when dealing with Irish lore/history are pretty good.....Black Rose (Roisin Dubh), Warrior, Emerald.....then you got Southbound, Dancing in the Moonlight, Sarah, Still in Love with You, Fools Gold...What I dig most about them is they can do a song that's hard, but with melodic riffs and go straight to a soft style ballad....
The guy is no different then a lot of these band guys...many of them I'm sure are full of themselves. Went to his grave sight during 1 of our trips to the Island, several years after his death and there were still tons of flowers and mementos on and around his marker stone.
All his songs about the Irish history are really quite good in how he tells the stories....As I said Jailbreak is actually my least favorite song they did. The band itself was very talented in the guitar area and Downey was IMO an unheralded drummer.
