In her days as the head of the special education dept in a large school district (after her earlier retirement) she used to have teachers that would come to her and say x wants z and they wouldn't want to do it. Often she would say: "That's not a hill we want to die on". Then the case-with a parent-would settle by giving them the "hill" but save lots of money in the long run. Essentially its "pick your battles"
