with two dots next to it that means "play the previous stuff" as many times as indicated by the number above it.. In "Free Fallin" it says to "play 3 times" above the fat vertical bar with 2 dots, so you'd repeat the entire part up to that symbol 3 times.. if there is another similar symbol further on, you'd repeat to the previous symbol, if I'm not mistaken..
