Mark Knopfler uses a lot of alternate tunings, so it sounds a lot more difficult than it is. Which is not to say it's not difficult. But it looks more like playing standard scales, but doesn't sound like it.
Knopfler also makes a lot of "Top 100 guitarists ever" lists, so there's that...
