Those things are silly superstitions.
But sports... or lots of things for me where I need to knock on wood otherwise the end would surely be nigh... Every time the announcer says "the kicker has made 42 straight from this distance so this is a sure thing"...
I remember my dad getting furious with an announcer when Steve Carlton was pitching a no hitter. "We can now write in the no hitter for Steve as the next batter has a .150 batting average." (or something like that) My dad said "oh no he doomed him" (in more colorful language) And of course he gave up the hit on the next pitch.
Rams games used to be the worst. I've chilled A LOT...
