we have a very heavy clay adobe soil.... that much water here would remain for months... soaking up extremely slowly.
I remember I was on the Kaibab Plateau once, (North Rim of the Grand Canyon), and a huge thunderstorm hit... more rain than I had ever seen in my life. In 5 minutes it was like standing in a shallow lake. 30 minutes later the water had soaked into the soil and was gone... and a half our after that even the mud had dried. I had never seen anything like that in my life... here if it sprinkles it's standing water for days... and the mud won't dry until maybe the end of May.
By the way... nothing like the soil 21Dog has in his area. - JamesJM
