incredibly... there are still some original dining establishments... plus motels, gas stations, etc.... along Route 66.... when I say original I mean in the 50's, when I first traveled the route.

I remember on my trip to St. Louis on my motorcycle... the first time... I saw a motel in Tucumcari, NM. that advertised as first opening in the 40's... I don't remember the exact year. Tucumcari's Main street used to be route 66 but now bypassed by the Route 66 freeway.. but not by much. If you've ever seen Radiator Springs in the movie CARS you've seen Tucumcari's main street. - JamesJM
