This was the most difficult I've watched, however. He was Mighty Mite age... meaning maybe 7? Although I suppose he may have been a couple years older than that. Austin, was his name. Austin Lopez. Austin needed quite a bit of help, which he received.... stopped a few times to watch the missed tackles around him, stopped to laugh, (Didn't really see that from the announcers booth but I talked to his Mom later). But kept those legs churning until he reached the end zone. He enjoyed it.. and so did...

Our defense... even though he humiliated them. Bodies strewn everywhere. Some kids missed several times during Austin's jaunt. When Austin crossed the goal line I think our entire defense was down... BUT.. no injuries, they all rose to join in the celebration after.

You're absolutely right, Waterfield... it should happen more often. After reading you it occurred to that I do not recall ever seeing this at a High School Varsity game... football game that is. I've seen it often in Basketball... which, just quickly.. nice story:

Just a few year's ago one of the kids on the 8th grade team got in the game. His name is Jeremy. Jeremy is NOT challenged mentally... but he has some severe birth defects - he can't really use his left arm at all... and all his joints make it difficult for him to run... or do much of anything requiring pretty good coordination. They didn't 'stop' the game for Jeremy. It was live action... and Jeremy was fouled, and went to the free throw line. It was a packed house... but only one person was thinking well.. happened to be my 2nd oldest grandson.

Gavin pulled out his phone and began filming... and Jeremy sunk his free throw. Swished it in fact. He then posted it on Facebook from where, I have no idea how, all the local TV stations in Fresno picked up on it and featured it on their broadcasts that evening. Jeremy was a star. - JamesJM
