Your prom was in the high school gym? So was mine but things here in this area are quite different. We are talking limos and high priced hotel ballrooms-which is really too bad because there are a lot of kids who simply cannot afford to go. While we live in a diverse ethnic community the proms turn out to be lilly white. I know this because when my wife was a principal and later a superintendent we attended more than one prom. It was sad but the parents who had money were powerful and wanted it to be "high class" notwithstanding that most of the minority grads could not attend. She later changed that which she gained a lot of respect and anger from parents.
